THE GAINWORKS AMP STORIES

Silvertone 1472 – Modified

The amp that started it all.

Silvertone 1472 – Modified in the Gainworks studio

My dad got this amp for Christmas in 1962 and handed it down to me when I was a kid. It was the first amp I ever played through.

A few years ago, I had a custom cabinet built by Glenwood Enclosures. The original speaker had basically disintegrated, so I tried a bunch of replacements. As soon as I heard the Eminence Copperhead, I knew I’d found the match. I also made a few circuit modifications to brighten it up a bit.

It still gets used quite a bit today. I love it for lo-fi indie-rock sounds and more subtle guitar parts. There’s a ton of character in this little amp—and a lifetime of history behind it.
